I have an issue with Rita Moreno playing in this movie, Dorothy Dandrege deserved that role

To yarwood1935, Lesley Garret would not stand up to Hollywood or Broadways elite. She has an annoying nasal quality and has a very obnoxious personality, maybe thats why you like her so much. To say this film is dated is a compliment in my eyes. Hollywood just couldnt recreate this spectacle today

To all Thai people offended by Yul Brynner's perfomance as King Mongkut. Nobody seriously believes its an accurate portrayal of your venerated King. Just as people dont believe that Patrick McGoohan's performance as Edward I in Braveheart is truthfull. Its just a movie. What a shame its still banned in Thailand as this is one hell of musical spectacle.

Excuse me, but that does not look or sound likeKing Mongkut's voice, nor does it look like him.

Thanks, I have heared her a few times already and I think thats enough for me. I would rather listen to Jessye Norman or Janet Baker.

If you have not already done so, I recommend you to watch " Lesley Garrett on the South Bank Show in 1998" (I can't give the link here but that's the exact title). It's in 5 parts.

Yes at ENO. But which other big opera houses did she sing in? The merry widow at ROH was only an operetta. She never did sing any opera in big opera houses. As a soprano, she is lightweight, compared to other great sopranos. Maybe you are right, she should just sing in operettas and musicals. |
